100 kurisindi vAna bullemma-bullODu Sathyam Rajasril_link  Released in 1972 and produced by Chalam. The song was picturized on Chalam and Vijaya Lalitha. The story line is very similar to the NTR starrer, rAmuDu-bheemuDu. Chalam appears in double roles and Vijaja Nirmala and Vijaya Lalitha as heroines. This song stands out to be one of the best Telugu rain songs.
99 ee rAdha chivariki EmainA edureeta Sathyam C Narayana Reddy??l_linkV_link Released in 1977 and directed by Veeramachaneni Madhusudhana Rao. The song was picturized on Vanisree. The movie is a remake of Hindi movie, Amaanush. Jaggayya, Sathyanarayana and Jaya Sudha appear in the supporting roles. I consider this song to be one of the best solo songs (to be specific, a jAvaLi) from Sathyam.

98 nEla meeda jaabili rAjA ramEsh KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1977, produced by Muppalaneni Seshagiri Rao and directed by Victory Madhusudhana Rao. The song was picturized on ANR and Vanisree. The movie was inspired from one of the Bengali movies/novels(??) and it was a commercial failure. ANR is a zamindaaru with an inclination to poetry and kind at heart. He marries a poor girl, Vanisree and gives shelter to a poor doctor, Jaggayya in his palace. But Jaggayya turns out be very cruel and lusts after Vanisree. He gives slow-poison to ANR by leaving him in an almost-death state and he rapes Vanisree and takes the control over the palace. Then ANR comes back as a saint and Jaggayya eventually gets beaten to death by the villagers for his cruel deeds. P Suseela recalls a guilty experience on this song that the song was initially given to Rama Krishna/Janaki and then it was offered again to Balu/Suseela by the movie makers (or the music director??) and once she came to know about it, she felt really sorry Rama Krishna/Janaki.
97 alA manDi paDakE Jockey SP Balu N/Al_linkV_link Released in 1985 and directed by Bapu. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Suhasini. The story is about the hero (who himself is a rich kid), who challenges his dad that he can survive without their riches and then he subsequently brings a positive change in another rich (but arrogant) girl, Suhasini.

96 elA elA.. dAchAvu? gOrinTAku KV Mahadevan Devulapalli Krishna Sastril_linkV_link Released in 1979, produced by Katragadda Murari and directed by Dasari. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Sujatha. It is a tri-angular love story among Sobhan Babu, Sujatha and a new comer, Vakkalanka Padma (probably this is her first and last movie) with Sujatha being at the sacrificial end. If I am not mistaken, the story was lifted from "idE nyAyam"(??), written by the then-famous novelist, Muppalla Ranganayakamma. But in the movie titles, the writer name appears as Rama Lakshmi (Mrs Arudra). I heard Dasari had to go around the courts because of this issue, although the movie was a superhit. Sujatha debuted into Telugu with this movie and she was already popular in Tamil and Malayalam by that time.
95 rAjA.. pilupu nAdEnurA bullemma-bullODu Sathyam Rajasril_link  Released in 1972 and produced by Chalam. The song was picturized on Vijaya Nirmala and Chalam. The story line is very similar to the NTR starrer, rAmuDu-bheemuDu. Vijaya Lalitha is the main heroine and Vijaya Nirmala appears in a guest role. I consider this song to be the best ghost-backdrop song in the Telugu movies and the music by Satyam is just captivatingly melodious.

94 sirimalle pUvalle navvu jyOti Chakravarthi Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1976 and directed by K Raghavendra Rao. The song was picturized on Murali Mohan and Jaya Sudha. Both are lovers and want to marry but Jaya Sudha mysteriously decides to marry an old man, Gummadi and upsets every one with this decision. Both of them have to endure the wrath of everyone around (and only they know the truth). She takes up the challenge of straightening up the family of Gummadi (that goes haywire after the death of Gummadis first wife). In the climax, it is revealed that Jaya Sudha is actually terminally ill with cancer and that she wants to make sure that the hero marries someone else and also to help an old man in the process...Courtesy of: Hanuman and Surya Guduru from the Discussion Board.
93 E geeta geesinA.. nee rUpamE muttaiduva KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1979 and directed by A.C.Trilokachandar. The song was picturized on Krishna and Jaya Chitra. Nagabhushanam tries to conceal the fact his own daughter is a bAlya vitantuvu and makes the public believe that his niece, Jaya Chitra is the bAlya vitantuvu instead. The heroine grows up with an inferiority complex that she can never be married again and our hero, Krishna is after her. Finally, Krishna proves the facts and marries Jaya Chitra. I think this is the last movie for the veteran character actress, Santha Kumari (her husband, late Pasupuleti Pullaiah also acted as her husband in the movie in the grand parents roles).

92 Uhalu gusagusa lADE bandipOTu Ghantasala Arudral_link  Released in 1963 and directed by jAnapada brahma Vithalacharya. The song was picturized on NTR and Krishna Kumari. The story/dialogue writer, Tripuraneni Maharadhi came into the limelight with this movie and later got popular with kanchu kOTa and many of Krishna starrers such as Alluri Seetharama Raju etc. This movie is one of my all-time favorite folklore movies. The movie was later remade as "veera kEsari" into Kannada with Raj Kumar
91 taram taram niramtaram ee andam Sree pAnDuranga mahatyam TV Raju Samudrala Ramanujacharya (Jr.)l_link  Released in 1957, produced by NTR, and directed by pourAnika brahma Kamalakara Kameswara Rao. The song was picturized on NTR. Interestingly, it completed 50 years on Novermber 28, 2007. As most of you already know the movie details, I am not going over them.

90 sinni..O..sinni jeevana jyOti KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1975, produced by D V S Raju and directed by Kasinadhuni Viswanadh. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Vanisree. Both of them excelled in the lead roles. I think the story was given by a leading novelist during that time (forgot her name). This movie was later remade into Hindi with Jaya Prada and Jeetendra by the same director. Interestingly, Sobhan Babu is the hero, who who acted in a maximum number of movies with K Viswanadh (Chandra Mohan comes close).
89 nA pEru bikAri Sree rAjeSwari vilAs Coffee Club Pendyala Nageswara Rao Devulapalli Krishna Sastril_linkV_link Released in 1976, produced by the Vijaya Banner and directed by Bapu. The song was picturized on Krishna. Interestingly, this is the only movie Krishna was having right before a super hit movie, pADi panTalu happened to him (following a string of 16 continuous flops after the evergreen movie, Alluri Seetharama Raju). Manjula was considered as the heroine first, but eventually the role went to Jaya Prada and this is the first movie in thier combination.

88 mATa rAni mounamidi maharshi Ilaya Raja Vennelakantil_linkV_link Released on December 30th, 1987, produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and directed by Vamsi Kompella. The song was picturized on Raghava Gogineni and Santhi Priya (also used to be called Nishanthi in the beginning of her career). The movie was a big fiasco, as the audiences did not like the weird subject. Vamsi could not boost up the career of Santhi Priya like the way he did for her older sister, Bhanu Priya. Krishna Bhagawan appears in a role of an understanding husband (of the heroine). Though Raghava was rejected as a Telugu hero, he got the tag, "Maharshi Raghava" starting with this movie.
87 kadilE mEghamA Laila MS Viswanathan C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released either in the late 80s.The song was picturized on Suresh and Preethi (who acted as a second heroine in movies like illAlu-priyurAlu and renDu reLLu Aru).  86 E subha samayamlO.. manasu-mAngalyam Pendyala Nageswara Rao Dasaradhil_link  Released in 1970 and directed by Kotayya Prathyagathma. The song was picturized on ANR and Jamuna. I have no idea about the movie details.
85 amma kaDupu challagA sAkshi KV Mahadevan Arudral_link  Released in 1967 and directed by bApu (a.k.a Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana). The song was written by Arudra (a.k.a Bhagavathula Sadaasiva Sankara Sastry) and picturized on Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala. An innocent fisherman (Krishna) witnesses a murder committed by Jagga Rao (who happens to be the heroines brother). Having served a jail sentence, the villain is out to kill the witness but eventually, he gets killed by his own sister. This movie has many specialties.. it is the debut movie for Bapu and for late Sakshi Ranga Rao; Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala acted together for the first time and since then continued to act in almost 50 movies in their career; both of them acted with no make-up in the movie.

84 eenAdu kaTTukunna bommarillu panDanTi kApuram SP Kodandapani C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1972, produced by Jayaprada Pictures (Krishna and Dr. Prabhakar Reddy together) and directed by P Lakshmi Deepak. The song was picturized on Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala. Late Dr. Prabhakara Reddy was the story-writer for this family melodrama. The story is about the strength of four brothers (SVR,Gummadi, Prabhakar Reddy and Krishna) staying united in spite of the havoc created by two ladies (Jamuna, an vindictive, ex-lover of Gummadi; B Saroja, a snobbish wife of Prabhakar Reddy). Krishna quotes that this is one of his top ten films. Naresh appears as an an elder son of Gummadi/Devika and Jaya Sudha (her debut movie) as a teenager, an illegitimate child of Gummadi/Jamuna.
83 Sarada.. nanu chEragA SArada Chakravarthi C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1973, produced by Kranthi Kumar and directed by K Viswanadh. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Sarada. Sobhan Babu (in a double role), Sarada, Jayanthi and Sathynaraya play the vital roles in the movie. The story is about an innocent village girl (Sarada), who believes that her husband (Sobhan Babu, who dies in a violent storm) is still alive and about a kind-hearted couple (Sobhan Babu and Jayanthi). Apart from this movie, Chakravarthi worked on one more movie (Krishnanm Raju starrer, alluDu paTTina bharatam) with K Viswanadh. Chakravarthi ensconced his position as a consistent and highly successful music director starting with this movie.

82 mAnasa veeNa madhugeetam pantulamma Rajan-Nagendra Veturil_linkV_link Released in 1977, produced by Navatha Krishnam Raju, and directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. The song penned by Veturi and picturized on Ranganadh and Deepa. Ranganadh and Deepa are a happy couple and have a kid. Under some unfortunate circumstances (Deepa is molested by Sarath Babu), Deepa commits suicide and since then Ranganadh gets into a depression state and starts neglecting the well-being of his son. Lakshmi comes into their lives as a teacher (for the kid) and slowly brings Ranganadh out of depression and in the end they both unite. This movie was later dubbed into Malayalam as "Lady Teacher" in 1982. Ranganadh, once in an interview, told that the movie did not help him much, as the movie was a commercial failure inspite of having all excellent melodies...  81 pADAlanE unnadi.. chillara dEvuLLu KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1975 and the song was picturized on Chakrapani (father of the young hero, Tarun). The movie is in the backdrop of a feudal system in old Telangana area. The main character is Prabhakar Reddy, who is a feudal lord of a small village in Nizam Telangana. He has a wife and daughter. He also has an unofficial daughter, Kanchana (through an illicit relation) and he treats her as a slave and pimps her to other land-lords for returned favors, obviously against her will but she is helpless. Then enters a Brahmin boy from the Andhra region, called Sarangapani, whom Reddy affectionately calls "pantulu". Reddy, in spite of all his feudal attrocities, is an avid listener of classical music and he hires pantulu as his court musician and also to teach music to his daughter(s). The story is all about feudal attrocities culminating in a mass revolt by the masses who put an end to the fedual system in the village. The movie was based on a popular novel with the same name written by Dasarathi Rangacharya who is the brother of the popular lyric writer, Dasarathi (Krishnamacharya). It is a beautiful piece of literature which portrays the feudal system prevalent in the Telangana region during the Nizam rule. The dialect of the novel is also highly Telangana-centric with a good dose of Urdu words... Courtesy of: Hanuman from the ChimataaMusic Discussion Board.

80 yEDu konDalavADA..venkaTESa sOggADu KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_linkV_link Released in 1975, produced by Daggubati Rama Naidu and directed by Kovelamudi Bapayya. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Jaya Chitra. Sobhan Babu perfectly fits the role of sOggADu (in spite of being a rustic illiterate, he is fondly called as sOggADu by his fellow villagers as he does every job neatly). Jaya Sudha plays as a second heroine and Sathyanarayana as a cruel villain. I read somewhere that the movie was initially meant for ANR, but Rama Naidu had to start the movie with one of his favatorite heroes (Sobhan Babu) due to ANRs unavailability (ANR was off to US for his by-pass surgery during that time and hence none of his pictures were released in 1975). 1975 was one of the best years for Sobhan Babu, as he had super hits such as bali peeTham, jEbu donga and jeevana jyOti and ofcourse sOggADu.
79 ghallu ghalluna kAli gajjelu.. chal mOhan rangA B Sankar (Ghazal Sankar) Jaladi Raja Raol_link  Released in 1978 and directed by B Bhaskar. The song was picturized on Krishna and Deepa. It is a family/action drama- Krishna re-unites his parted parents, Gummadi and Shavukaru Janaki and puts a check on villains (Prabhakar Reddy and his son, Mohan Babu), who want to usurp their properties. Krishna fools the heroine by appearing to her in double roles (as a rustic ruffian and as a company manager) and this song is between the ruffian character and Deepa. Balu once mentioned (in pADutA teeyagA program, where a participant sang this song) that the music director, B Sankar used to be called as "Ghazal Sankar"...  78 kOyila pilupE kOnaku andAla rAsi Ramesh Naidu C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1980. The song was picturized on Raj Kumar (a new face that vanished just with this one picture and he happens to be the younger brother of Latha (andAlala rAmuDu fame)) and Rati Agnihotri, who debuted in to Telugu with this movie. I am not aware of any other details of this movie.
77 oka vENu geetam palikindi pATai.. ammAyi manasu Rajan-Nagendra Mailavarapu Gopil_link  Released in 1981. The song was picturized on Chandra Mohan, Sarath Babu and Jaya Sudha (while Sarath Babu drives a car and Chandra Mohan sings). If I am not mistaken, this movie is a remake of Amol Palekar starrer, chitchor and this song comes as the Telugu version of "Aaj Se Pehle" song. The dholak stamp of the duo, Rajan-Nagendra is very conspicuous in this song :-)

76 nee manasu, nA manasu Ekamai idA lOkam Chakravarthi C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1973, produced by Chatterji and directed by Kovelamudi Surya Prakasa Rao (and K Raghavendra Rao assisted his dad for this movie). The song was picturized on Sr. Sobhan Babu and Sarada. Sobhan Babu excels in both father and son roles in the movie. Though Chakravarthi debuted with "mUga prEma" almost three years earlier to this movie, this is the first movie that made him very popular and since then, he never had to look back for the next 15 years. It is interesting to note that Sobhan Babu insisted up on replacing SP Balu with V Rama Krishna (who was nurtured as an younger version of Ghantasala by ANR and Sobhan Babu during that time), inspite Chakravarthi made a futile attempt to retain Balu as the lead male singer in the movie. Starting with "manchi manushulu" the following year, Sobhan Babu started letting Balu sing for himself again. Another interesting thing is that Murali Mohan was supposed to do the side hero role in the movie, but the offer eventually went to Chandra Mohan.
75 nee madi challagA dhanamA?daivamA? TV Raju C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1973 and directed by Chittajallu Srinivasa Rao. The song was picturized on Jamuna and NTR. NTR transforms from an honest lawyer to a money-minded one due to a financial crunch in his family. Finally, he realizes that the money he earns as the unjust lawyer (by killing his integrity) can not fetch the mental peace that he once used to have. The tune is inspired by "khilte hai gul yahan" song from Shashi Kapoor starrer, Sharmilee and I guess this movie could be the last movie for TV Raju.

74 palikinadi..pilichinadi seetA rAmulu Sathyam Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1980, produced/directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. The song picturized on Krishnam Raju and Jaya Prada. The story is about how a husband brings up a positive change in his rich, snobby wife.
73 komma meeda kOkilamma kuhU annadi.. kOkilamma MS Viswanathan Acharya Athreyal_linkV_link Released in 1983 and directed by K Bala Chandar. I guess this is a remake of a Tamil movie, which might have been directed by the same director. The song is picturized on Saritha. The hero, Rajeev is an opportunist (initially he is a plain guy, but gradually attracted towards a rich girl, Swapna) and Saritha plays a sacrificial role in the movie. Interestingly, Rajeev later acted as a villain in Chiru action movie, gUnDA in 1984 and as a father (for Chiru again) in Big Boss in 1994.

72 merupulA meriSAvu prEma sankeLLu Ramesh Naidu Veturil_link  Released in 1982 and directed by Vijaya Nirmala. The song was picturized on Naresh and Syamala Gowri. The movie is a remake of the Hindi superhit movie, Love Story (Kumar Gaurav and Padmini Kolhapoori). This movie was supposed to be the launching pad for Naresh, but Jandhyala convinced Vijaya Nirmala and hence "nAlugu stambhAlATa" became the first movie for Naresh. Though Ramesh Naidu provided some excellent tunes, the movie was a commercial fiasco.
71 idE pATa pratee chOTa.. puTTinillu-meTTinillu Sathyam C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1973, produced by AVM and directed by Pattu. The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Lakshmi. Another pair in the movie is Krishna and Chandra Kala. Sathyam and his orchestra appear in this song. This movie is a remake of a Tamil movie, "pugundha veeDu" and later was remade in Hindi, "Teri kasam" with Kumar Gaurav and Girsh Karnad in the main leads (in Sobhan Babu and Krishna roles respectively).

69 vadalanu rA ninu raghurAmA.. kalpana Chakravarthi Veeturil_link  Released in 1977 and directed by Kovelamudi Raghavendra Rao. The song written by Veturi and picturized on Murali Mohan and Jaya Chitra. This movie is a remake of the Hindi movie, Anaamika (Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri). This song is equivalent to the Hindi version, "javoon to kahaan javoon" (you can find this song in Sanjeev Kumar section on the Hindi Songs link on the main page). Though the movie is a remake and the original one had excellent melodies by RD Burman, Chakravarthi did not copy those tunes.. instead came up with equally melodious songs in the Telugu version as well.

68 praNaya rAga vAhini... cheli mAyA maScheendra Sathyam C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1975, produced by PNR pictures (Pinjala Nageswara Rao), and directed by B. Mistri. The song was written by Dr. C Narayana Reddy and picturized on NTR and Vanisri. NTR, Vanisri and Rama Krishna play the roles of Vishnu, Lakshmi and Siva in this mythological movie. Teh movie starts off with the "sAgara madhanam" episode, where Vishnu tricks the demons and gets the nectar to the angels. Siva later boasts that no one can trick him. Vishnu teases Siva with an apsarasa mAyArUpam and seduces Siva. Siva then gets upset and challenges that one day Vishnu would also get infatuated with woman`s seduction. Later Vishnu consoles Lakshmi, when Siva burns their son (Manmadha) into ashes. Then Lakshmi gets upset and goes to the earth and sets up a queendom, where there would be no male domination. Later Vishnu also comes down as maScheendra. Siva also is born as a human being and turns as a disciple of maScheendra. maScheendra now goes to the queendom and settles down there as the queen`s husband. Siva goes there to release him from the human bonds, but the queen doesn`t let him go. Finally it all turns out to be "Vishnu mAya" and all three happily return to their homes (vaikunTham and kailAsam respectively). No wonder, the movie with this kind of confused story was a miserable fiasco at the box-office. If I were to choose the top five melodies of Sathyam, I would definitely include this song in the list.
67 jAbili andam kannA.. muttaiduva KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1979 and directed by A.C.Trilokachandar. The song was picturized on Krishna and Jaya Chitra.

66 E Uru.. E vADa hEmA hEmeelu Ramesh Naidu Veturil_link  Released in 1979 and directed by Vijaya Nirmala. The song was picturized on Krishna and Helen. ANR and Zareena Wahab are one pair and Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala are another pair in the movie. ANR plays double roles (one as a don, "Red Lion" and another as an innocent villager.. as expected, one dies and another is forced to act as the first one) and he entertains the audiences with some action sequences. This movie reminds me the funny nick names for ANR and Sathyanarayana (Red Lion and Black Cat) and I dont recall if Krishna has any nick name in the movie.

The song written by Arudra and picturized on Kanchana. One of the most popular multi-starrer/(actor) movies in the Telugu film history with some best emotional scenes on NTR and SVR. This song remains as a cult icon to date in the arena of Telugu club/cabaret songs.

60 naDichE O andamA samajAniki savAl KV Mahadevan Veturil_link  Released in 1979 and directed by SP Rajaram (and the co-director is PN Ramachandra Rao, who later directed movies like "chitram bhaLArE vichitram"). The song was picturized on Krishna and Sridevi. The story is about an officer who turns as a decoit to take revenge on the society that doesnt let his father (who is a dangerous decoit in the past and later gets reformed after serving a sentence) live in peace. Sathyanarayana plays the father role and Nuthan Prasad the villain role. Though the movie looks like a medley of a few other popular movies such as Samadhi, Sholay, Dharma etc, you can see a similar thread of father-son confrontation (the son being shot dead by his father) in Dileep/Amitabh starrer, Shakti, who was in fact released later in 1981.
59 piliche piliche anurAgam Lawyer viSwanath Sathyam C Narayana Reddyl_linkV_link Released in 1978 and directed by SD Lal. The song penned down by Dr. C Narayana Reddy and picturized on Jayasudha. NTR and Sathyanarayana play the title and supporting roles respectively. Probably this is only one movie, in which Ranganadh (as a bAva) acted with NTR.  56 ninu chUDaka nEnunDalEnu neerAjanam OP Nayyar C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1989, produced by RV Ramana Murthy (Lalitha Sri Combines, who earlier produced a successful movie, abhinandana in 1988) and directed by Ashok Kumar (who happens to be a camera man as well). I guess this is the only one Telugu movie that OP Nayyar scored for. Hero is ViSwas (who played as a son of Kota in ahA nA peLLanTa movie) and Saranya plays as a heroine in dual roles - the first one dies and the hero becomes a dEvadAsu and then the second one comes into his life and gets him out of depression with her love. This movie is best remembered for the melodious songs inspite of its disastrous box-office performance (courtesy: jmk from the discussion board).

54 neeli mEghamA.. jAli chUpumA ammAyila Sapadham Vijaya Bhaskar Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1975. The song written by Dasaradhi and picturized on Chandra Mohan and Lakshmi. Another pair in the movie is Rama Krishna-Chndra Kala. Both heroes and heroines are brothers and sisters respectively. The story is about an oath by the heroines (hence the title) on making the life of their father-in-law (Sathyanarayana) hell, as they believe that he is responsible for the death of their father- but they finally realize that he is innocent and that the actual culprit is Allu Ramalingaiah. Vijaya Bhaskar used his original Tamil tune for this song.

50 mallela vELa ..allari vELa jUdagADu Chakravarthi Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1979 and directed by Veeramachaneni Madhusudhana Rao. The song picturized on Sridhar and a junior artist (that played the sister role of Sobhan Babu). Sobhan Babu and Jaya Sudha are the hero and heroines in the movie. Interestingly, this song (which is the best melody in the movie) was not picturized on the main leads. It is one of the haunting melodies from Chakravarthi and probably the best duet for G Anand in his career.
49 pADanA tenugu pATa America ammAyi GK Venkatesh Devulapalli Krishna Sastril_linkV_link Released in 1976, produced by Navatha Krishnam Raju and directed by Sangeetam Srinivasa Rao. The song picturized on Devayani (a.k.a. Anne Chaymotty, a French woman), who plays the title character. Gummadi has two sons- Sridhar and Ranganadh. Sridhar returns to home from US with an American wife and Gummadi reluctantly welcomes them.. but both wife and husband strongly believe in Indian culture and traditional values. The younger one, Ranganadh and his girl-friend, Deepa are infatuated with the Western culture and mock the Indian values and culture. When their friend, Sarath Babu takes an advantage of their western attitude and tries to molest Deepa, Ranganadh and Deepa realize that the western culture does not really gel with our Indian values. On the other hand, Devayani, though an American girl by birth, impresses every one with her strong commitment in the Indian traditional values and culture.

Krishna and Jaya Chitra play the main hero and heroine roles. The movie is a remake of a Vishnu Vardhan starrer, "sahOdara savaal" and Rajani Kanth plays the same big brother role in the original too. Interestingly, KSR Das and Sathyam worked for the original version as well.
47 EvEvO.. kalalu kannAnu jwAla Ilaya Raja Mailavarapu Gopil_link  Released on June 14, 1985, produced by Pinjala Nageswara Rao and directed by Raviraja Pinisetti. The song written by Veturi and picturized on Radhika and Chiranjeevi. Chiru plays dobule roles (as brothers) and Radhika and Bhanu Priya play the heroine roles. This is one of the Chiru action movies (during the period when a typical Chiru action movie meant "6 fights, 5 songs and a heavy climax") where he rendered a sincere restrained performance in the big brother role, but the movie was not not a big success. I guess this is the second movie for Ravi Raja as a director (the first one being Madala Ranga Rao starrer, veera bhadruDu (1984)).

Ram Mohan played a main hero role in movies like tEne manasulu, kanne manasulu, rangula rATnam, Private Mastar etc, but he later slipped into oblivion, while Krishna, who played secondary roles to him, shot to stardom in a short span of time.  44 jhummandi nAdam siri siri muvva KV Mahadevan Veturil_link  Released in 1976 and directed Kasinadhuni Viswanadh. This is the first movie (unofficial though) for Edida Nageswara Rao as a producer. The song penned by Veturi and picturized on Chandra Mohan and Jayaprada. As most of you already know the story details, I will skip that part. Some specialties of this movie: Veturi penned dialogues (shared with Jandhyala), probably one and only one time in his career; Kavita debuted with this movie; Viswanadh, who was until then making movies with the stars (mostly with Sobhan Babu), started getting a unique brand of his own from this movie with an emphasis on classical dances; Rama Prabha, who until then was just a comedian, was shown in a termagant character (as a nagging wife and an evil step-mother) for the first time; the movie was later remade by Viswanadh as "sargam" with Rishi Kapoor and Jayaprada in 1979.
43 kRushi vunTE manushulu.. aDavi rAmuDu KV Mahadevan Veturil_link  Released in 1977, produced by Sathyanarayana & Suryanarayana and directed by Kovelamudi Raghavendra Rao. The song penned by Veturi and picturized on NTR, Jaya Sudha and a group of kOya manushulu. I guess Raghavendra Rao started a trend of these kind of songs (a song in which different mythological/folk-lore/historical characters are portrayed by a hero) with this movie. Other examples are "chaTTAniki, nyAyAniki jarigina ee samaramlO..", "puNya bhUmi nA dESam.. namO namAmi" etc. 1977 was one of the BEST years for NTR with three sensational hits (D V S karNa, aDavi rAmuDu and yama gOla). Raghavendra Rao gave a new definition to a "successful commercial cinema" with this movie.

42 chErEdeTakO telisee prEma bandham KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1976 and directed by K Viswanadh. Penned by Veturi and picturized on Sobhan Babu and Vanisree. Following the super success of Jeevana Jyothi, the same combination (Viswanadh, Sobhan Babu, Vanisree and Sathyanarayana) came up with this movie and but the result turned out to be a disappointment. Jaya Prada plays a support role as an younger sister to Vanisree. Veturi mentioned in his recent book, "komma komma kO sannAyi" that Dasaradhi used to like this song very much.
41 pUlai pUchE .. rAlina tAralE.. ninDu manishi Sathyam C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1978 and it is a remake of Dharmendra starrrer, samAdhi. Picturized on Sobhan Babu and Jaya Chitra. The tune is also a copy of the original song, "jab tak rahE.. tan mein jiya" (one of the best Asha songs that I like most and you can find it on Hindi songs page --> Dharmendra section). Sobhan Babu plays double roles (father and son) and Jaya Chitra and Deepa the heroine roles respectively. In the original, Dharmendra plays as a decoit, but here Sobhan Babu plays a hot-blooded, patriotic revolutionary (pre-independece days). He, in an unfortunate situation, is responsible for the death of a kidnapped kid (of a businessman, Gummadi) and then in penance, he leaves his own kid with Gummadi and goes to jail. This is one of those "string of flops" right before mallepuvvu, which revived his career in the late 70s (the same thing with "pADi panTalu" for Krishna).

38 urakalai godAvari.. abhilAsha Ilaya Raja Acharya Athreyal_linkV_link Released in 1983, produced by KS Rama Rao and directed by A Kodandarami Reddy. Picturized on Chiru and Radhika. I am not covering any movie details, as all of you are aware of them. It was the time when the melody in the Telugu music started taking the back-seat for a few reasons: Sathyam was fading out; Ramesh Naidu was confined to only very few selective movie makers; mAma was getting old; Chakravarthi was overbooked with almost 70% of the total number of Telugu movies and most of the time, he started churning out very lifeless, average tunes. It was the time we badly needed another melodius music director and it was none other than the music maestro, Ilaya Raja. Though he had been there in Telugu as a music director since 1976 (prior to that, he used to work in the orchestra of GK Venkatesh), he was just recycling his Tamil melodious tunes into Telugu every now and then. 1983 was the year he started ensconcing a secured seat in the Telugu music with movies like abhilAsha and sAgara sangamam and he continued so for the next ten years until the inane, transient, and lifeless music took over the industry.
37 chigurAkulalO.. oka chilakammA jeevita radham Chakravarthi Rajasril_link  Released in 1981 and directed by V Madhusudhana Rao. Picturized on Sobhan Babu and Sumalatha. Sobhan Babu and Rathi are lovers. Sobhan Babu goes to jail by taking an embezzelement blame (for father, I guess). Once he is out of jail, except his mother(who knows the truth), every one hates him. He finds a new job and the daughter of his new boss is after him. Finally, every one realizes his sacrifices and he unites back with his lady love, Rathi. Anjali Devi, Ranganadh and Sumalatha play the mother, elder brother and second heroine roles respectively. I am not sure if the movie was commercially successful or not. I guess it could be one of the last movies from one of the most successful combinations (V. Madhusudhana Rao - Sobhan Babu) in the Telugu films.

36 kApuram... kotta kApuram kotta kAupram KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1975 and directed by P Chandra Sekhara Reddy. The song was picturized on Krishna and Bharathi (who later married the Kannada actor, Vishnu Vardhan). It is a village/agricultural family back-drop movie with a dose of family sentiments and how the couple patiently endure the harassments (by Suryakantham, I guess).
35 telusukO.. ee jeevita satyam Alu magalu T Chalapathi Rao Sri Sril_link  Released in 1977 and directed by Tatineni Rama Rao. The song was picturized on ANR and Vanisri. The movie is about misunderstandings, suspicions (wife suspects husband here.. for a change), and uncompromising ego differences between the couple. Narayana Rao and Lakshmi Kanth play the sons roles. This song comes in the back-drop, when the sons hurt the feelings of their parents (under the influence of their wives). Finally the old couple realizes that the husband-wife bond is stronger than the parent-child bond.

34 yamunA teerAna.. rAdha madi lOna gowravam MS Viswanathan N/Al_linkV_link Released in 1970 and dubbed into Telugu from Tamil (the original name is also gowravam). The song was picturized on Sivaji Ganesan and Usha Nandini. This emotional court-drama based movie is about a confrontation between a highly successful, seasoned criminal lawyer and an amateurish, young public prosecutor, whose perspectives are "winning a case" and "bringing justice to the innocent people" respectively. Both roles, bAbAyi and abbAyi are played by Sivaji Ganesan (as per "Agent 116" from the discussion board on db.princemahesh.com).

32 kalanainA kshaNamainA.. rAdhA kalyANam KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1981 and directed by Bapu. Picturized on Chandra Mohan and Radhika. I guess this is the second movie for the pair after "Priya". KV Mahadevan was at his best with all excellent tunes in this movie. It is a triangular love story with Sarath Babu at the sacrificial end. It was a remake of a Tamil movie by Bhagya Raja and then again was remade by Bapu himself into Hindi as "Woh saath din", an Anil Kapoor starrer in 1983. Another Hindi movie, "Hum dil de chuke sanam" (1999) again has striking similaries with this movie.
31 kurrADanukoni kunukulu teesE.. chilakamma cheppindi MS Viswanathan N/Al_link  Released in 1977 and directed by Eeranki Sarma. Picturized on Rajani Kanth and Sangeetha (Sangeetha alludes Rajani Kanth as a "kurrODu"). Sri Priya and Narayana Rao are a housemaid and an innocent servant respectively, working for a family (Sangeetha and her younger brother, Lakshmi Kanth) in a village. Sri Priya often teases the oafish searvant, but gets attracted toward the stylish Lakshmi Kanth and the latter pretends that he is in love with her. After she "slips her leg" (with Lakshmi Kanth), the arrogant Sangeetha rejects the idea of their wedding. On a parallel thread, Lakshmi Kanth introduces his friend, Rajani Kanth to his sister. Gradually Sangeetha falls in love with Rajani Kanth, but she doesnt admit it. With some support from Rajani Kanth (who wants to bring justice to Sri Priya by making Lakshmi Kanth marry her), Narayana Rao gives shelter to the pregnant Sri Priya. Having realized the golden heart of Narayana Rao, Sri Priya decides to be with him and even rejects a proposal from Lakshmi Kanth, who would eventually yield in to marry her with a hope that Rajani Kanth would in turn marry his arrogant sister. If you dont see the titles, you could be mistaken that it is a Balachandar movie for the director comes from the school of K Balachandar. Lakshmi Kanth debuted as a hero with "kanne vayasu" and after these two movies, he appeared in a few movies like Alu magalu and gharAnA donga. I guess that this one is a second Telugu movie for Rajani Kanth too (after his debut movie, "antulEni katha"). This movie was later remade into Tamil by K Bala Chandar and Kamal plays the Rajani role (as per "Hanuman" from the topic, "Discussion on Weekly Songs" in the discussion board).

30 pongi poralE.. andAlennO pongi poralE kotta jeevitAlu Ilaya Raja C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1980 and directed by Bharathi Raja. The song picturized on Hari Prasad (a room-mate of Chiru during their film institute days) and Suhasini. As far as I know this is the second (and final) notable Telugu movie for Hari Prasad as a solo hero, followed by the super hit Dasari movie, Sivaranjani(1978). He plays as a teacher and falls in love with a poor girl, Suhasini. Dr. Siva Prasad (known as a classmate of Chandrababu Naidu and enjoyed some minister post because of that intimacy during the TDP rule and he played the beggar role in Khaidee too) plays a pAlEru role and with a hope to marry the heroine, he creates a rift between the lovers and makes the hero leave the village. But when he learns that his bhUswAmi, Nuthan Prasad wants to deflower the heroine, he helps her in killing Nuthan Prasad and again he re-unites the lovers. Hari Prasad plays a pusillanimous hero role and this film did not do any wonders for him in Telugu, inspite of its excellent melodies. After this movie, he never appeared again on Telugu screen as a solo hero (until he re-surfaced in minor friend roles in a few late 80s Chiru movies like jEbu donga and yamuDiki moguDu).

28 gOranta deepam..konDanta velugu gOranta deepam KV Mahadevan C Narayana Reddyl_link  Released in 1978 and directed by Bapu (Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana). The song penned down by Dr. C. Narayana Reddy. This song is truely a title-sing in the sense that it comes as a back-drop one during the titles of the movie. Vanisree appears sans makeup in this movie (towards the fag end of her heroine career). Sridhar and Vanisree are a couple and Mohan Babu (a friend of Sridhar) lusts after Vanisree. Mohan Babu tries to molest her and he successfully imputes the blame on her and makes Sridhar believe that Vanisree is at fault and that misunderstanding leads to their seperation. In the end, Sridhar comes to know about the reality and the couple re-unites (:sharA mAmUlu:). Albeit critically acclaimed and having excellent melodies from mAma Mahadevan, the movie was a commercial fiaso.

The song written by Dr. C. Narayana Reddy (who was a default choice for most of NTR home production movies) and picturized on NTR and Vanisree. The music was composed by Saluri Hanumantha Rao, who is an elder brother of Saluri Rajeswara Rao. The movie is a remake of Rajendra Kumar and Mala Sinha starrer, Geet and Mohammad Rafi was roped in to sing all songs (male) in the movie. I consider this song to be one of the BEST songs from S Janaki in the 70s.

Though GK Venkatesh did very few films in Telugu (in comaparison to the Kannada language, in spite of being a Telugu guy from East Godavari dt.), all most all of his Telugu songs are marvellous melodies.  15 nuvvu vastAvani.. malle puvvu Chakravarthi Veeturil_linkV_link Released in 1978, produced by Samatha arts (Chattarjee) and directed by Victory (Veeramachaneni) Madhusudana Rao. Though it is a remake of Guru Dutt starrer, Pyasa, this movie is very well made and remains as one of the best movies from Sobhan Babu. This song penned down by Veeturi, sung by Vani Jayaram and the movie dialogues by Athreya. The song picturized on Sobhan Babu and Lakshmi (and in the back-drop on Pandari Bhai and chorus as a Krishna keertana in a temple). The meaning of the song is aptly suited for the context with a one-sided love (rather platonic) by Lakshmi. This movie has a lot of specialties. Until this movie was released, Sobhan Babu had a string of flops for nearly one and half years and this movie put him back in action. The credit goes to his god-father, V Madhusudana Rao, who gave him most of his best pictures since his career beginning. The natural acting of Sobhan Babu (who gets ditched by his lover, Jaya Sudha and by his own brothers) and Lakshmi (who acts as a hooker) in the movie is simply awesome. Another best thing about the movie is the songs, composed by Chakravarthi and I consider this movie to be his BEST piece of work among his 900-plus movies. I first watched it in my 5th grade and did not understand the story.. but when I watched it again nearly after ten years (during my engineering days), the movie (in particular, Sobhan Babu with his melancholy expressions) haunted me for a quite long time since then.

14 gaDasari ammAyi.. naDumoka sannAyi.. kannavArillu Adi Narayana Rao N/Al_link  Released in 1978, produced by Anjali Devi and directed by K Pratyagatma. The song picturized on Narayana Rao and Deepa. The story revolves around a family (Gummadi and Anjali Devi) and their four daughters/sons-in-law.
13 Ame tOTi mATundi America ammAyi GK Venkatesh N/Al_link  Released in 1976, produced by Navatha Krishnam Raju and directed by Sangeetam Srinivasa Rao. The song picturized on Ranganadh and Deepa. When their friend, Sarath Babu takes an advantage of their western attitude and tries to molest Deepa, Ranganadh and Deepa realize that the western culture does not really gel with our Indian values :-( On the other hand, Devayani, though an American girl by birth, impresses every one with her strong commitment in the Indian traditional values and culture. Devayani (a.k.a. Anne Chaymotty, a French woman) played the title character.

12 Emani vrAyanu? peddalu mArAli B Gopalam N/Al_link  Released in 1974 and the song picturized on Krishna and Jamuna. It seems that Krishna deliberately acted in a lot of soft roles after he got stardom with his Bond/cowboy type action movies to avoid the stereotypic image in the early and mid 70s. Though I have not seen this movie, the title seems to be one of those soft/sober movies from Krishna. Another strange thing is that all five songs by Ghazal Sankar hosted on this site are from Krishna movies only.
11 tolisAri mimmalni chUsindi modalu SreevAriki prEmalEkha Ramesh Naidu Veturil_link  Released in 1984, produced by Ramoji Rao and directed by Jandhyala. The song was picturized in parts on Poornima, Naresh and Sutti Velu. This movie is the starting-point for all full-length comdey movies and I am not sure if any other Telugu comdey hit movie made until the early 80s revolutionized the Comedy films like the way this movie did. I read it somewhere that Janaki (who fell sick) sang this song on a bed, while Ramesh Naidu was recording the song with a very very simple orchestra, sitting next to her. This is such a song that only S Janaki can sing and only Ramesh Naidu can compose.

10 nA tODuvai.. nA neeDavai tODu-neeDa Chakravarthi Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1983 and directed by Vallabhaneni Janardhan (who acted as SP and father to Sumalatha in Gang Leader). The song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Saritha. Saritha and Radhika are sisters. Saritha is married to Sobhan Babu and Radhika becomes an early widow soon after her marriage with some one else. Saritha becomes a mental patient and goes for mental treatment in an asylum and at the home-front, Radhika has to get married to Sobhan Babu due to family pressure. When Saritha gets cured with her illness and comes home, Radhika has to act as a widow again to save Saritha from a mental shock. Saritha soon realizes the sacrifice being done by her younger sister and she pretends as a mental patient again and goes back to the asylum, thereby re-uniting Sobhan Babu and Radhika.
9 neelAlu kArEnA.. mudda mandAram Ramesh Naidu Veturil_link  Released in 1981 and it is the directional debut for Jandhyala. The song was picturized on Pradeep and Purnima (who were also the first-timers). A love story with the concepts of rich/poor conflicts and hero/heroine elopement, the film was a harbinger for teenage-love-story based Telugu movies. The association between Janadhyala and Ramesh Naidu started with this movie and it continued for the next six years until their last film, "AhA.. nA peLLanTa!", which is the penultimate movie for Ramesh Naidu.

8 nAgamallivO.. teegamallivO nAgamalli Rajan-Nagendra Veturil_link  Released in 1980 and directed by Devadas Kanakala. Picturized on Chandra Mohan and Mallika. The funny thing is that both (hero and heroine) are uneducated and naive and always clad in village dresses.. but this did not stop the director from picturizing this dream song on them in some dazzling, modern dresses. Chandra Mohan plays two roles (kOyavADu and a film star) in the movie. The former loves the heroine and the film star eyes on the heroine and tries all means to get her to his bed. Finally, the kOyavADu teaches the cine hero a lession and brings change in the latter.
7 nee kaLLu chUSAnu.. swargAniki nichhenalu KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1977 and the song probably picturized on Rama Krishna and Prabha. I did not watch this movie and dont know other details.

6 sannAyi rAgAniki.. ee chinnAri nATyAniki sannAyi appanna GK Venkatesh Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1980 and produced by the actor, Chalam. The song picturized on Sobhan Babu and Jaya Prada. The movie is a remake of Kannada Raj Kumar starrrer, "sanaadi appanna". GK Venkatesh is the music composer for both Kannada and Telugu versions (and Ustad Bismillah Khan played the shenai).
5 kaluvaku chandruDu entO dUram chillara dEvuLLu KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1975 and the song was picturized on Chakrapani (father of the young hero, Tarun). Then enters, a Brahmin boy from the Andhra region, called Sarangapani, whom Reddy affectionately calls "pantulu". Reddy, for all his feudal attrocities, is an avid listener of classical music and he hires pantulu as his court musician and also to teach music to his daughter(s).

4 ee sanjelO.. kenjAyalO mUga prEma Chakravarthi Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1970 and the song was picturized on Sobhan Babu and Vanisree. Chakravarthi a.k.a. Kommineni Appa Rao (who until then was known as a good dubbing artist) debuted with this movie as a music director. In the first seven years of his music direction career (until the yama gOla days), he gave a maximum number of musical melodies to Sobhan Babu and in fact more than one fourth of Sobhan babu movies (almost 220 in total) had Chakravarthi as the music director.
3 navvulu ruvvE puvvamma gAjula kisTayya KV Mahadevan Acharya Athreyal_link  Released in 1975 and the movie was produced/directed by Adurthi Subba Rao (the last movie in the series of four movies in their combination). The song was picturized on Krishna and Zareena Wahab (who is in fact a Telugu girl and she later acted in Hindi movies such as Chitchor etc). Krishna acts in a soft role in this movie. The story goes like this- Anjali Devi gets pregnant before her marriage (like Kunthi) and the kid, Krishna is brought up by a bangles seller. Later he gets nearer to his mom without knowing the fact that she is his mother. In the climax, Anjali Devi reveals the truth before she dies. kosa merupu: Mahesh Babu was born, when Krishna was shooting for this movie.

2 O.. bangaru rangula chilakA tOTa rAmuDu Sathyam Dasaradhil_link  Released in 1975 and the movie was produced by Chalam. The song was picturized on Chalam and Kannada Manjula. Balu once quoted that he is beholden to Chalam and Sathyam for letting him sing some of the best melodious songs in the beginning of his career. Balu also quoted that Chalam has a very good music sense and following the recording of this song, Chalam was so impressed with the song that he threw a party to Balu, Sathyam etc.
1 E divilO virisina pArijAtamO.. kanne vayasu Sathyam Dasaradhil_linkV_link Released in 1973 and the song was picturized on Roja Ramani and Lakshmi Kanth (who later appeared in movies like "chilakamma cheppindi" and soon disappeared). This is a debut movie for Roja Ramani as a heroine. Sathyam re-used his original Kannnada song, which had been sung by PB Srinivas. Balu quoted that he was not satisfied with his voice, when the song was recorded for the first time. The next day, Balu requested Sathyam to let him sing again and we all know what the final outcome is after the second-time recording. Balu once reminisced that his guru, SP Kodandapani was very much impressed with this song.
